Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
Level:Easy
Time:5 Minutes
Cost:<$2
YUM, today we're going to provide you with our quick and easy vanilla buttercream frosting recipe! Why go to the store and buy frosting when you can make it with what you already probably have in your pantry! There are several variations to this recipe, so defintely feel free to experiment with proportions to see what you enjoy best.
What you'll need:
3 cups Powdered Sugar (you might need a bit more depending on desired thickness)
1/2 cup Butter (1 stick)
1 tablespoon Milk (may need a bit more depending on taste and thickness of frosting)
1 teaspoon Vanilla
Place your butter In a microwave safe dish (we used our trusty 2 cup Pyrex) and heat until melted.
Once your butter is melted, add your powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, and stir well.
Continue stirring, you should feel the frosting to start firming up, so this would be when you need to add your tablespoon of milk and vanilla.
The consistancy we prefer is thick enough it droops off a spoon but doesn't run off the spoon.
Note: If your frosting is too thick, add a HALF TEASPOON of milk at a time and stir, if the frosting is too thin, add powdered sugar. Also, the frosting will harden, great for topping cakes or cupcakes, not so great if you want to frost later, so just pop your trusty microwave safe container full of frosting back in the micro for 5 seconds at a time until you can easily stir the frosting.
Time for a taste test!
Now decorate to your heart's content! We used some red white and blue sprinkles and a simple paper stencil we cut to add a flag design for the Fourth of July!
